Fernweh (n) Literal far-sickness; a desire to travel, a longing for far-off places
Hi, I’m Leah!
I am a girl who fell in love with travel after spending a few months living abroad in Vienna, Austria. After visiting 3 continents, 15 countries, and 28 states (and counting), I’ve discovered a passion of planning trips, exploring different cultures, and encouraging others to do the same.
I want this blog to be an inspiration to EVERYONE to get out and travel. Whether you’re a broke college kid, a young married couple, parents of three, or wise, older folks, I want you to be able to fulfill that urge inside of you to explore different places or even explore your local area more. I want this blog to not only encourage that urge but also supply you with tips to make travel possible.
When I was brainstorming names for this blog, I stumbled across the German word, Fernweh (pronounced fairn-veyh). I love this word because it is the opposite of homesickness; it’s an urge to explore and go. I also love it because “Fernweh” doesn’t translate to any specific word in English because it is a unique German word for a specific feeling. After learning a good bit of German while living in Austria and then finding out the meaning of the word “Fernweh”, I was hooked on incorporating it because I feel so many people can relate to experiencing Fernweh yearly, monthly, weekly, daily, or even hourly (if you’re like me). Therefore, I want to help you fulfill your Fernweh.
So follow along, and join the adventure of Fulfilling Fernweh.
